Grief clung to me
|This is how Grief speaks to me.
The way it makes me feel changes. This is how I feel right now. Grief is different for everyone.|
Grief clung to me
And mocked me
As I sought comfort
“How dare you seek comfort?” Grief said as I bowed.
I own you
Not by choice
Not out of anger
Not out of shame
Not out of love
Not out of anything to gain
I just own you
Not because you’re not good enough
Not because you did something wrong
Not because you do everything right
Not because you deserve all this pain
I just own you
Like a branded dark horse on hill of snow
I own you
Look how you shine, though
You’re not dirty
They admire you, you know?
Not because you’re strong
Not because you did anything right or wrong
Not because you’re accomplished
Not because you earned it
Not because you’re
everything
anything
or nothing at all
I’m Grief, and I own you
Not because of your history
Not because of your faith
Not because of your sin
I just own you
Not because you changed
Not because of your dedication
Not because of your choices
Not because of your devotions
Not because of anything you think you
are
were
or will be
I just own you
So no matter how hard you
Try
Push
Give
Take
Love
Hate
Master
Fail
Be, do, work, strive, make, shove
Squeeze
Punish
Resent
Injure
Hurt
Betray
Forgive
Live or die for
I own you
Because I’m always here to stay
You must submit to me
If you wish to
Grieve another day
Who will you be
Who will you become
Who will you push others to be
Because of me
Yet
Because of you?
“You can’t go through life without me.” Grief said with a bow.
I own you
Please make a home for me
Grief clung to me
And comforted me
As we made peace 💛🕊
